Cotton absorbs oils, moisture and skincare, and creates friction as you move against it overnight. That friction is what leaves sleep creases in skin and tugs at hair, causing tangles and frizz. Silk's smooth surface absorbs far less and moves with you, so your skincare stays where you put it and your hair wakes with fewer tangles.
Momme (say mo-may) measures silk's weight and density. Most silk pillowcases use 19 to 23 momme. Elizabeth chose 25 momme for a tighter weave, a smoother surface and fabric that holds its finish wash after wash. Higher is not automatically better: past a point the fabric turns heavy and stiff. 25 is the balance of substantial feel and lasting smoothness.
Silver ions have been used to limit bacterial growth for centuries, from water storage to modern textiles. ZILK builds the same principle into the fabric: Silvadur™ silver-ion technology from LANXESS works at the surface of the silk to inhibit the growth of bacteria and keep it fresher between washes. Because the silver is bonded into the fibre, it keeps working over time instead of washing out.
ZILK silk was washed 20 times, then tested by the independent lab SGS:

Machine washable. Place it in a mesh laundry bag, wash on the delicate cycle in cold or lukewarm water with a pH-neutral detergent, and wash with like colors. Do not wring. Press out excess water with a towel, then hang or lay flat to dry. If needed, use a cool iron or steamer on the reverse. Washing every one to two weeks keeps the surface fresh.

Why 25 momme?
Momme measures silk's weight and density. At 25 momme the weave is tighter and smoother and holds its finish wash after wash. Higher is not automatically better, past a point silk turns heavy and stiff.
What's the difference between silk and satin?
Satin is a weave, not a fiber, and is usually made from polyester. It can feel smooth at first but does not breathe the way natural silk does and does not share silk's skin and hair benefits. ZILK is 100% mulberry silk, a natural protein fiber.
What does the silver-ion technology do?
Your pillowcase features Silvadur™ technology to inhibit the growth of bacteria on the fabric surface, which helps it stay fresher between washes.
What did SGS test?
